A UK youth who was incarcerated in Dubai for having a sexual relationship a 17-year-old girl has passed away in a vehicle accident three months subsequent to his freedom.

Marcus Fakana, 19, was a passenger in a car that collided in Tottenham, north London, in the early morning of Friday. He was rushed to a medical facility with critical conditions and later died.

The Metropolitan Police announced that officers had tried to halt a car but, following a brief chase, they lost visual contact of the car and it was subsequently discovered crashed into a commercial vehicle.

Mr Fakana, who was 18 at the moment of the involvement with the girl, was granted a royal pardon from Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in July subsequent to being sentenced to one year in prison.

"He was appreciative for the kindness shown to him by the people of Britain, and his ordeals gave him a renewed focus on religious beliefs and spiritual practice."

"Marcus was thankful to have gained his liberty and was hoping to creating a promising tomorrow."

The guardian of the girl in the involvement with Marcus filed a complaint following seeing messages between the two when she had come back to the UK.

"Marcus spent the bulk of this year in a Dubai detention facility which undoubtedly caused him long lasting psychological distress."

"It's sad that of all of 2025, he was merely liberated for the three months from the 3rd of July until the 3rd of October."

Marwaan Mohamed Huseen, of Argyle Road, Tottenham, has been charged in relation to the tragic car crash.

The 19-year-old is charged with causing death by reckless operation, operating a vehicle without proper documentation, driving without a authorization and failing to stop.

He is due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court in due course.

The Met's internal affairs unit has been informed about the situation, along with the external review agency.
