🔗 Share this article The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Critical Role Song The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for characters such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord. All in all, the opening looks amazing. However, I felt that something was lost in the music selection. The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track originating from the official score of the same name, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will love its inclusion. But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018. Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that excites you before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun. The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched. Of course, the creators has stated that the animated show will have a few changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro seems to be among these. This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
