The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
