The acclaimed police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.

A brand new six-episode season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the network.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The last season concluded in 2021 with a finale that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived recently.

Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.

Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.

Series Legacy

Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Stephen Graham.

The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.

The finale of series six drew the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the time there were no intentions for further series.

Nevertheless, the corporation announced on this week that a new season is now being produced.
