Ravindra Jadeja performed brilliantly with batting and bowling as the Indian team defeated West Indies by a massive innings victory in Ahmedabad

Following his knock of a brilliant century on the second day, Jadeja secured 4-54 as the home side wrapped up the first Test inside two sessions on the third day

Following Indian skipper Gill's decision to declare on 448-5 at the end of day two, West Indies required 287 runs simply to force India to bat a second time

This appeared improbable after they were bowled out for 162 runs on the opening day, and the tourists collapsed to 46 for five with the left-arm spinner removing opener John Campbell then dismissing King and Shai Hope for single-figure scores

The West Indian batsman showed some fight, scoring 38 runs and putting on a 46-run partnership with Justin Greaves, but when he was caught and bowled by Washington Sundar, all chances of forcing India to bat again effectively ended

Jadeja took one further wicket, having Johann Layne caught by Siraj, and Seales was the final wicket as India started their home season with a triumph

Both squads travel to Delhi for the second and concluding Test beginning on this Friday

After the match, it was announced that Test captain Gill has been named as the Indian team's One-Day International captain, replacing long-standing skipper Rohit Sharma

The young batsman will lead the side for the first time for a three-game ODI series in Australia starting from October 19

Sharma's final game as captain was the Champions Trophy final in March this year, where he led India to victory over the Kiwis

The experienced player has been included in the squad and, similar to senior teammate Virat Kohli, looks set to play in his first international cricket after the Champions Trophy win

Gill took over from Rohit as Test skipper in May, leading his side for his debut series in the 2-2 drawn series in the UK

Gill captained the red-ball side for his initial home series in the win in Ahmedabad, leading a squad that has lost Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ashwin to international retirement since its last home outing

The young leader will also be vice-captain for a three-game T20 series against the Australian team that follows the 50-over leg of the tour
