Principal designer Josh Mohan says developers wants players to feel powerful — including ones who are new. "[The playerbase] is doing other crazy stuff like super-glides and tap-strafes, and we looked around at other games, observed what the community execute, and we wondered, 'What if we provide some of this power to a broader audience?'" the designer clarifies. "Because currently, certain techniques are somewhat awkward to access — you need to remap your keybinds and hit precise timings. So we said, 'What if we make a polished version?'" The Amped Update Emphasis on Mobility Mobility is primarily the central theme in this season, with Legends the gravity mage, Rampart, and the aerial combatant receiving buffs to help keep them in motion. Recovery time on her tactical ability has been decreased, and the Gravity Lift will propel players upward faster than it used to. Her defensive walls feature a roof and the ability to provide speed boosts to allies in range. "In my opinion many agree that her moment has arrived," says character developer the designer. "Certainly she was dominant previously, but due to the addition of other characters, movement[-based] passives, and redeployment tools, it felt like she's not very relevant in today's Apex. It was an ideal chance for us to reexamine multiple elements in her abilities and sort of bring her back to her glory days." Valkyrie's Upgrades To reclaim her competitive status in current strategies, the developer says Respawn evaluated all her skills and introduced some powerful changes. Her jetpack have been upgraded, boosting velocity during flight, and the jets themselves now recharge three times faster, enabling the player to spend more time in the air. She can no longer be harmed from her own Missile Swarm, which has also been upgraded to mark enemies who are hit from the missiles.
